10. Resident Evil
The first in the Resident Evil movies
has to be the best one. It is when the T-virus was first let out of
Umbrella Corporation and into the world. I have to be honest, the
movies following this just seem to lose it's value because as the
series goes on, you just see less zombies and I seemed to have lost
interest after the first movie. It doesn't remind me much of the game though.
9. Scott Pilgrim vs the World
Scott Pilgrim is a fairly amusing
movie. This is on the list because of the video game feel that the
movie offers. The main character Scott Pilgrim has to defeat Ex lover
of the girl he adores (Ramona Flowers). He also plays in a band and
tries to juggle his life all while chasing after Romana. I like how
creative the atmosphere of this movie was.
8. Pixels
Pixels is a great watch, especially if
you are into retro arcade games. It is about aliens that attack earth
by replicating video games. I wouldn't say this is the funniest of
movies that I have seen, but it is pretty awesome to see the video
games being presented in this way.
7. Wreck-it-Ralph
Now I am a fan of a lot of animation
movies, but this one has to be one of my favorites in that genre.
Ralph is a character in a video game who becomes tired of being left
out or shunned from the others in his game and looked upon as an
enemy. He leaves and jumps around to different video games trying to
find his place to become a hero figure. I just enjoyed the story of
this movie because it is just different and it kept my interest even
as an adult..This is the most family friendly movie on my list.
6. War Games
If you don't mind watching older more
classic movies, if you haven't seen this, you should. Long story
short, a kid hacks into a military super computer while thinking he
is just playing a video game. While playing, he unknowingly almost
starts a world war and feels responsible to help stop things.
Although this is an older movie, the story just drags you in. Even if
this isn't entirely about video games, it sets the story for
something much bigger.
5. Red vs. Blue
I would assume that most Halo fans
knows of Rooster teeth's creation. If you are a fan and haven't, give
it a watch, just do it. It is a Machinima
made series and has 13 seasons with each episode lasting close to 10
minutes. It follows a Spartan crew in the middle of war along with
all of their mishaps. It has it's own sense of humor.
4. Ready Player One
Although ready player one is a pretty
good movie, it doesn't quite make the top of the list. The plot takes
place in a wasteland of society. All humans can do do is plug
themselves into the virtual reality (Oasis) that was created for them
to escape the reality they are currently in. When the creator dies, a
hunt for easter eggs within the game could lead to someone inheriting
the game. The main character makes his way to hunting the easter eggs
and finds himself falling into something much more than a
competition. This is something that I could actually see happening
sometime in the future. What if society does get so bad that humans
would rather live in a virtual world than the real one? This movie
just gives you something to think about what could become of society
if video games was all that is left.
3. Code Monkeys
Code Monkeys is a TV series presented
in an 8bit form of animation and is most similar to a video game. It
is about a company of game designers and all of their shenanigans. I
don't think this TV show is too well known, but once you watch it you
won't forget. It is just unlike any TV show I have seen and it has
that crude sense of humor to go along with the theme. It is a shame
that this show only had 2 seasons, so cherish the time you watch it.
2. Video Game High School
Another TV show on this list is the
Youtube mini series Video Game High School. It had 3 seasons so it
was pretty short lived unfortunately. The name explains it all, it is
about a school of competitive gamers and creators working their way
to the top. It is humorous with a somewhat real life situations. One
of the cool aspects of this is that when the students play their
games, it is portrayed as them in the actual game. To understand what
I mean, you will just have to watch it for yourself.
1. Grandma's boy
You may ask, why out of all the movies
is this one number 1? Simply put, it is a movie of immature stoners
and video games. When you mix the two you get one hilarious outcome.
It is about game testers that dedicate their lives to video games. It
has a lot of quirky characters which makes it even more interesting.
The main character is forced to live with his grandma and her
roommates which isn't so bad as it may appear. I don't want to give
much away but if you enjoy bong hits, gut wrenching laughs and video
games, drop everything you are doing now and watch this!
If you took my advice on any of these
movies, comment below and let me know what you thought about it!
