Fortnite, the
popular cross-platform game is being outed for using popular dance
move emotes that are said to be under copyright or under the
copyright process. Now this goes beyond fair use of content because
the game company has profited off of the said copyrighted material.
This goes to show that Epic Games seems to think they are above the
law. Dances included in prior law suits from other celebrities are
known from: “Milly Rock”, “Drop it Like it's Hot” and the
recent “Carlton” dance from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
There are
also other artists who have noticed their content on Epic and have
took no action but are displeased with Epic's decisions. It is said
that Epic Games has not made any comments pertaining to these
accusations. It is morally wrong to profit off of the creations of
others. There isn't anything that can justify this situation. Epic
Games really needs to slow their roll with making these decisions
thinking that there will be no consequences. Although there is no
exact amount of how much they are being sued for, I feel Epic should
at least be responsible for sharing their percentage of profits made
from the content with the creators.
