Most Wanted Games of 2019

2019 is a whole new year of impatiently waiting for video games to be released. Some will be worth the wait as others will just be a disappointing waste of money. Either way, here are just some of the games I plan on playing after release this year.

January 2019

Resident Evil 2 Remake

Release Date: 1/25/2019
Platform: Xbox One | PS4 | PC

I remember playing Resident Evil 2 on the Playstation. Although the controls were always hard to manage, the gameplay never got old. My sister used to play this with me and she was the shooter while I was the solver lol. This was my favorite Resident Evil. It is nostalgic in a way to see it become remade. Now I can actually play it in first person instead of how it originally was. I just really hope the game sticks to the story that the OG had.

Tropico 6

Release Date: 1/25/2019

Platform: Xbox One | PS4 | PC

Tropico is a series I have played for a while now. This simulation is a little more on the political side than others which is why it stands out to me. So far I haven't seen too many new features coming to Tropico 6, but there is talk of there being modern hackers than can crash the economy, so that should be interesting to play out.

Kingdom Hearts III

Release Date: 1/29/2019
Platform: Xbox One | PS4

Now this is pretty exciting news. Seeing as I have only played Kingdom Hearts on the Playstation, it is now coming to Xbox One for the first time ever! I have only really played this on the Ps2 and have failed to follow the series further. This one though has seemed to catch my interest more because it seems like Square Enix has gone beyond in this one.

April 2019

Mortal Kombat XI

Release Date: 4/23/2019
Platform: Xbox One | PS4 | PC | Switch

Now I am not so good at MK, but I do enjoy playing it. It has been a while since Mortal Kombat X made its release so it was due for a new one.  One thing that surprised me was that it will be available for the Nintendo Switch because it skipped a 3ds release.

TBD 2019

FFVII Remake

Release Date: TBD
Platforms: TBA

It is rumored that a remake of Final Fantasy 7 is on the rise. This was one of the favored of the FF series. Fans will always remember this installment in the series. Although so far it seems as if 2019 release date is a longshot, we can only hope that this is being made a reality!

World War Z

 Release Date: TBD
Platform: Xbox One | PS4 | PC

Now this was an interesting find. It seems that a game World War Z is being made after the movie. It is a third person shooter which is said to be a co-op experience. This seems like a good concept for a new type of zombie/survival game. I'm just hoping that it can be played alone as well and isn't co-op only gameplay.

Must Watch Video Game Movies/TV

10. Resident Evil

The first in the Resident Evil movies has to be the best one. It is when the T-virus was first let out of Umbrella Corporation and into the world. I have to be honest, the movies following this just seem to lose it's value because as the series goes on, you just see less zombies and I seemed to have lost interest after the first movie. It doesn't remind me much of the game though.

9. Scott Pilgrim vs the World

Scott Pilgrim is a fairly amusing movie. This is on the list because of the video game feel that the movie offers. The main character Scott Pilgrim has to defeat Ex lover of the girl he adores (Ramona Flowers). He also plays in a band and tries to juggle his life all while chasing after Romana. I like how creative the atmosphere of this movie was.

8. Pixels

Pixels is a great watch, especially if you are into retro arcade games. It is about aliens that attack earth by replicating video games. I wouldn't say this is the funniest of movies that I have seen, but it is pretty awesome to see the video games being presented in this way.

7. Wreck-it-Ralph

Now I am a fan of a lot of animation movies, but this one has to be one of my favorites in that genre. Ralph is a character in a video game who becomes tired of being left out or shunned from the others in his game and looked upon as an enemy. He leaves and jumps around to different video games trying to find his place to become a hero figure. I just enjoyed the story of this movie because it is just different and it kept my interest even as an adult..This is the most family friendly movie on my list.

6. War Games

If you don't mind watching older more classic movies, if you haven't seen this, you should. Long story short, a kid hacks into a military super computer while thinking he is just playing a video game. While playing, he unknowingly almost starts a world war and feels responsible to help stop things. Although this is an older movie, the story just drags you in. Even if this isn't entirely about video games, it sets the story for something much bigger.

5. Red vs. Blue

I would assume that most Halo fans knows of Rooster teeth's creation. If you are a fan and haven't, give it a watch, just do it. It is a Machinima made series and has 13 seasons with each episode lasting close to 10 minutes. It follows a Spartan crew in the middle of war along with all of their mishaps. It has it's own sense of humor.

4. Ready Player One

Although ready player one is a pretty good movie, it doesn't quite make the top of the list. The plot takes place in a wasteland of society. All humans can do do is plug themselves into the virtual reality (Oasis) that was created for them to escape the reality they are currently in. When the creator dies, a hunt for easter eggs within the game could lead to someone inheriting the game. The main character makes his way to hunting the easter eggs and finds himself falling into something much more than a competition. This is something that I could actually see happening sometime in the future. What if society does get so bad that humans would rather live in a virtual world than the real one? This movie just gives you something to think about what could become of society if video games was all that is left.

3. Code Monkeys

Code Monkeys is a TV series presented in an 8bit form of animation and is most similar to a video game. It is about a company of game designers and all of their shenanigans. I don't think this TV show is too well known, but once you watch it you won't forget. It is just unlike any TV show I have seen and it has that crude sense of humor to go along with the theme. It is a shame that this show only had 2 seasons, so cherish the time you watch it.

2. Video Game High School

Another TV show on this list is the Youtube mini series Video Game High School. It had 3 seasons so it was pretty short lived unfortunately. The name explains it all, it is about a school of competitive gamers and creators working their way to the top. It is humorous with a somewhat real life situations. One of the cool aspects of this is that when the students play their games, it is portrayed as them in the actual game. To understand what I mean, you will just have to watch it for yourself.

1. Grandma's boy

You may ask, why out of all the movies is this one number 1? Simply put, it is a movie of immature stoners and video games. When you mix the two you get one hilarious outcome. It is about game testers that dedicate their lives to video games. It has a lot of quirky characters which makes it even more interesting. The main character is forced to live with his grandma and her roommates which isn't so bad as it may appear. I don't want to give much away but if you enjoy bong hits, gut wrenching laughs and video games, drop everything you are doing now and watch this!

If you took my advice on any of these movies, comment below and let me know what you thought about it!

Epic Games Being Sued

Fortnite, the popular cross-platform game is being outed for using popular dance move emotes that are said to be under copyright or under the copyright process. Now this goes beyond fair use of content because the game company has profited off of the said copyrighted material. This goes to show that Epic Games seems to think they are above the law. Dances included in prior law suits from other celebrities are known from: “Milly Rock”, “Drop it Like it's Hot” and the recent “Carlton” dance from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

There are also other artists who have noticed their content on Epic and have took no action but are displeased with Epic's decisions. It is said that Epic Games has not made any comments pertaining to these accusations. It is morally wrong to profit off of the creations of others. There isn't anything that can justify this situation. Epic Games really needs to slow their roll with making these decisions thinking that there will be no consequences. Although there is no exact amount of how much they are being sued for, I feel Epic should at least be responsible for sharing their percentage of profits made from the content with the creators.

From Disc to Download

Video games are something that is a part of many lives. Gameplay and graphics have come a long away over the years and are continuing to change. Cartridges turned to CD's and CD's turned to download etc.. It is always good to grow with a generation, but what happens when these changes are taken too far? I am just one of many gamers who likes to collect and obtain physical copies of games. I just don't trust this system completely and would rather have something to hold in my hand if I am going to spend money on a game.

Of course downloaded games have its perks such as: no more damaged discs (an easy fix for is to simply take care of your games) or no longer replacing the disc drive, but what happens if you lose an
account that where you had bought hundreds of dollars in games? There goes all your hard work and money gone in
an instant. Not to mention some people still don't have the internet speed capable of downloading games in a reasonable time. To them and instant download is not so instant.. In all honesty if this type of major change happens to video games, stores like Gamestop and local gaming stores could fail just like Blockbuster did when Netflix and other streaming options became available.  There are already certain games with no other option but to download. It is sad to think that disc games could become just an old school concept in the years to come with there being more demand for game downloads.

Aside from discs becoming no more, there is also the evolution of VR. I mean, I do have to admit, having and experience like the “Ready Player One” movie would be pretty amazing. In my opinion, there will be a time where this advanced VR experience will be available to the public, but when it does, what will happen to society? Will it become a wasteland with rarely any social contact outside of a video game? Only time will tell. Just wait until they can upload our consciousness into a program like the matrix..Or are we already there..?

My Top Games and Why

  10. Hearthstone

Even though I haven't really played WOW, I do like this strategy card game. I like playing the game casually, as far as competitive goes, it is hard to get anywhere without buying something of some extent. I am just a little too impatient to sit and spend hours upon hours earning very little gold and dust to gain more cards to build decks. It just seems more like you have to pay to become competitive or take the time to slowly get there alone. I mostly play the arena or brawl when I do play.

9. Watchdogs

Now this game kept my attention throughout both of them. Mixing the feel of GTA with hacking and technology was a perfect idea to go along with the upcoming generations. This game had a little bit of everything. I liked that it had puzzles and missions that required stealth. There was just a lot to do in this game which kept me busy for a while. I have yet to play it online, but I will eventually.

8. Old School Runescape

Old School Runescape is a MMORPG game that has been around for years. The game itself is fairly simple, yet time consuming. Sadly, my original account that I had spent all that time on has been lost and I can never get it back again. Such a bummer... Since then I have created a new account and continued to try and build it back up close to where I was before. It is taking time but having a membership helps some! The thing that keeps my interest in this game is the skill building and crafting aspect. Building up skills is my main goal for Runescape. I have yet to play the new version. I have tried it and just really didn't like what it had changed into. OSRS still has a large following which will hopefully never let the game die.

7. Final Fantasy XV

Now there is nothing wrong with the original Final Fantasy games. Final Fantasy 7-9 on the Playstation were really great and were my favorites in their time. Oh and who could forget the multiple discs the game came on right? FFXV just brought a whole new perspective to the series. Of course the turn based action is something Final Fantasy fans have been accustomed to, but I found myself really liking the live action that was in the game. It gave me quite a few hours of game play and even more with all of the side quests. I still play this game even though I have conquered the main story line.

6. Walking Dead Telltale Series

I absolutely loved the Walking Dead Series! I'm not so much of a fan of the TV series as I am of the game. Playing this game allowed me to play a horror game in a chill manner without waking anyone in the house up from sudden pop-up scares. It has a lot of game play hours if you actually go through and find the endings yourself. I have replayed these series over again and there is always something different. In my opinion, the very first series was the best. It just seemed as if there was more thought put into the story plot and game play. The story pulled me in and had roller coasters of emotions and suspense which kept me curious about what was to come. It really is a shame to hear about Telltale shutting down because although their other games didn't make the list, they were still a good play.

5. Zoo Tycoon

Any good fan of simulations will remember the Zoo Tycoon for the PC. This has always been on of my favorite older simulations. The amount of control you have over your zoo is what attracts me to this game. Not only that, but the game poses challenges when building exhibits which makes it more fun for me to play. I will have to say that the new Zoo Tycoon is not anything like the original. I purchased it for the Xbox and it was so horrible. It was nowhere near the complexity that the PC version brought to the table. I would say that the Xbox version is more for children than teens or adults.

4. Ark: Survival Evolved

I have only just recently been playing ARK on the Xbox after hearing good things about it. So far I am totally hooked. The expansive free-roam map is crazy to explore. I almost want to think that the game is impossible to beat because there is always something to do. I am into survival games and ARK really fits that genre. I like that the maps are adjustable because it makes it easier to learn your way around the game. One thing that really stood out was the manual navigation. It took me a while to get used to the idea, but once you play a while longer it becomes much easier. I could spend months at a time on this game and never get bored of it. One hint though, be careful not to lose your dinos unless you can track them. You may never find them again..

3. Rock Band

Now Rock Band is a game I have played so much, that my controllers are all worn down. Luckily I found replacement pads for the drums! Rock Band 3 in particular had loads of great songs as DLC. I have yet to try Rock Band 4 though. After seeing the set was over $500 I figured I would wait to get an adapter for my kit instead. Rhythm games are awesome, but mixing it with rock music makes me a happy gamer. I am not a complete pro, but I am good!

2. The Sims

The Sims series have always been close to me ever since the original version. I remember playing the original sims and all sims after that. This game has consumed hours upon days of my life and the reason being that it is an escape into another life for me. I have played every Sims game. Including Ps2 Castaway, Urbz:Sims in the City and Bustin' Out. I will say the Sims Castaway for the Ps2 surpasses the PC because it gives the player a different type of game play. You have to scavenge for your own resources to build items like you would in a survival game. If you are a fan of both the Sims and survival genres, I suggest you give it a try if you can find it. So far I have been enjoying the Sims 4 with expansions and I will have to say that I am loving the added emotions and interactive careers. I am really glad they brought back businesses! One thing that I miss from the Sims 3 though is the advanced styling that you could use in build mode. The Sims is a game I will continue to play.

 1. Halo 3

As far as competitive an overall gaming goes, Halo 3 has to be top of my list. I have played this game a little after it's release on the Xbox 360 and will continue to play it until it becomes obsolete. What I love about this game is that it is a more chilled pace with little power up advantages unlike Halo 5. I can get go about with my sprees without having to worry about the the extras. Also, the physics of Halo 3 are so much more flawless than not only the newer Halo series, but other games I have played. Not to mention, the Halo 3 community in it's time was just hilarious.
